Content Notes: Soulmate AU, unhappy all in all.
From the moment Peter first saw the words 'stay back' on his palm, he knew things would end in misery with his soulmate.
He didn't think it would end up like this, though. Peter is in the heart of his own god, he couldn't possibly be more in his own element- and this bastard of the Eye, the Archivist, is going to kill him right here and now. Behind the Archivist, Martin stands, his figure barely distinguishable from the fog surrounding them all, staring at him. Peter stares back at him, and he hates that instead of the void he sees in Martin's eyes, there is a burning flame in Peter's chest.
He hates that it matters to him, what he sees in Martin's eyes.
"I will not say another word," he says to the Archivist, still looking at Martin. Martin's expression remains indifferent, but he keeps his eyes on Peter.
It's what Peter will have to be content with. It's all he has earned from his soulmate, all that he deserves from him.
"That's fine," the Archivist says. "You will never have him again."
When the Archivist tears into his mind, ripping him to pieces, Peter never once looks away from Martin. He thinks he sees a change in Martin's eyes, a flash of pain, regret, but there is no time to tell for sure.
